How To Introduce and Tell About Yourself

When an interviewer asks you to "tell me about yourself," they are essentially asking you to introduce yourself and give them a brief overview of your skills, experience, and qualifications. Your introduction should be tailored to the specific job you are interviewing for, but there are some general tips that you can follow:

  • Start by stating your name and where you are from.
  • Briefly summarize your educational background and work experience.
  • Highlight your skills and abilities that are relevant to the job.
  • Be enthusiastic and positive.
  • Be concise and to the point.

Here is an example of an introduction that you could use when interviewing for a software engineering position:

"Hi, my name is Bard. I am a recent graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, where I majored in computer science. I have experience working as a software engineer intern at Google and Amazon. I am a highly motivated and results-oriented individual with a strong passion for technology. I am confident that I have the skills and experience that you are looking for in a software engineer."

When you are introducing yourself, it is important to be yourself and to be genuine. The interviewer wants to get to know you, so don't be afraid to share your personality and your unique perspective.

Here are some additional tips for introducing yourself in an interview:

  • Be prepared. Take some time to think about what you want to say before the interview.
  • Be specific. Don't just say that you are a hard worker or that you are a team player. Give specific examples of times when you have demonstrated these qualities.
  • Be positive. Focus on your strengths and what you can offer the company.
  • Be concise. Keep your introduction to two or three minutes, max.

Divide the section following way. I am sharing my introduction below for an example.

I have a strong track record of success in leading and managing engineering teams, and I'm passionate about using technology to solve real-world problems. I'm also a certified Python developer, AI engineer, and machine learning engineer.

Past:

I started my career as a software developer, and I quickly rose through the ranks to become a team lead. I then moved into the architecture role, where I was responsible for designing and implementing large-scale software systems.

I've always been interested in emerging technologies, and I've been fortunate to have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects in AI, data science, and cloud computing. I'm excited to continue to learn and grow in these areas.
